形同傀儡 甘露反杀（二） Emperor Wenzong gradually sidelined the Niu-Li faction leaders out of the court and then broke up the eunuch group. He first allied with Chou Shiliang, an rival of Wang Shoucheng to strip Wang of his military power . Later Wang Shoucheng was imprisoned and executed. However, when attempting to remove the remaining eunuch forces led by Chou Shiliang, a misstep by incompetent allies led to an aweful disaster. This is what I consider the most stupid event in Tang history, the Ganlu Incident. Chou Shiliang and other eunuchs seized control of the situation and led the imperial guards to kill anyone they saw, leaving the court nearly empty. Zheng Zhu was killed by ambush troops , Li Xun was captured after his defeat, and countless people were implicated and killed in Chang'an. After the failure, Tang Wenzong was kidnapped by Chou Shiliang , completely as a puppet. At that time , Tang Wenzong realized that it was impossible to save the Tang Dynasty. In 840 AD, Chou Shiliang launched a coup to place Li Yan, the younger brother of Emperor Wenzong, on the throne. Emperor Wenzong perished in the Daming Palace.
