It’s true from a neuroscience perspective, there’re certain chemicals imbalances occurring inside of the brains for people who are depressed or those more susceptible to depression.
However I think, and this is merely my observation, so it could be wrong, the most distinction between positive person and people with depressive tendency is their ability to bounce back, so being positive don’t necessarily have to have higher IQ or even higher EQ for that matter, but they do have higher AQ, that is the capacity for adaptability. So when positive folks face adversity, which also is inevitable in life, instead of dwelling in the bad mood, they can quickly adjust themselves and take actions to change, they’ll try to come up with another solution or find a way to distract themselves, whereas people more prone to depression will simply allow themselves to sink in the sadness and let the negative emotions engulf them completely, but do nothing or little to alter their situations. The key here is different mindsets, so really your perception is only your reality.
&We all know one of the most common and quick methods of emotion regulation is avoidance, but that’s hardly a smart choice, it doesn’t help you in the long run, it just covers up the problem for a short period of time until the unresolved issue eventually resurfaces. Then the cycle goes on & on. Change mindset or cognitive reappraisal might be a better way to go.
