Sending Gift and Other Etiquette
Westerners give gifts on many occasions, such as Christmas, birthdays of friends and family, weddings, and some other holidays. With too many gifts to your friends, they will feel uncomfortable because they don't know how to reciprocate.
There are some tips I think you should be careful . First, for presents,Chinese like to give high-priced gifts to show their economic value, but Westerners like to give and receive small, simple, inexpensive gifts, more like souvenirs, such as books you like, flowers for hosts, and toys for children.
Second , attitude toward gifts , Chinese are often too modest and curious to accept, while Westerners will accept gifts and like to open them immediately. They will praise the beauty and sophistication of the gift and show their gratitude. Westerners place a high value on homemade and works of art. When they ask if you should send this homemade thing, they're actually complimenting you. They are trying to tell you that you are very skillful and talented in preparing this gift.
In addition, there are many customs and etiquette that we need to follow.First of all, don't call blacks "blacks" or "black slaves," as this would remind people of slaves brought from Africa. It's better to call them "African-American" so that it's more acceptable. Moreover, try to avoid the number 13 as it is often considered an unlucky number and it is rude to ask a friend about her income and finances, as well as about her age and marital status.
